Can a vendor really accept as many offers as they want?

  • Thanks for all your replies. We've had it confirmed that both offers have been accepted. The ironic thing is that we are first time buyers with a mortgage in place, so no chain and (aside from cash buyers) surely the best buyers in the current market. We've decided to pull out this morning and keep looking. Thanks again for the help.

    Their loss.
Good luck with your "looking". Just remember to tell any vendors that your offer is subject to the house coming off the market. If they want to sell they will remove it.

Make sure the EA knows it's because of the contract race - they'll be p1ssed off at losing a likely sale/commission so will be a little less incentivised to sell the house for top dollar.....

You have made the right decision. I was once in a contract race, and immediately pulled out of the purchase. I later found out that there were problems with the title deeds, which the seller knew about, and panicked and set up a contract race in the hope that the eventual purchaser would have acted so fast they would have not found out, or ignored inthe fight to exchange first.
