Hello All

BRACE is a registered charity (No. 297965) established in 1987 to finance research into conditions of the elderly, particularly Alzheimer's Disease. They support research projects undertaken in universities and hospitals in the South West of the UK, particularly in Bristol, which is a centre of excellence for neuroscience research.

BRACE has raised over £10 million to help support diverse research projects into all aspects of dementia. On average they are supporting 15 researchers at any one time.

BRACE is one of only a few charities that exists specifically to finance dementia research - this work is vital if future generations are to be free from the fear of this devastating illness.

BRACE aims to raise the much needed funds to help support a continuing programme of research and also to raise awareness of the disease and it effects, not only on the sufferer but also on family life. When BRACE started in 1987, research into dementia was woefully underfunded and sadly that remains the case today - approximately £11 is spent per sufferer each year compared with £289 for each cancer sufferer. Both conditions deserve to be well supported.

Information
  • Alzheimer's Disease is the most common form of dementia, with 55% of dementia sufferers being affected.
  • Dementia currently affects approximately 750,000 people in the UK and this figure may double by the year 2050 as the population ages. However, dementia is a global issue with nearly 18 million people affected worldwide.
  • Dementia affects 1 in 20 of the over 65s and 1 in 5 of the over 80s but it should not be thought of as a normal part of ageing. People as young as 40 can be affected, although this is rare.
  • Funds for Alzheimer's research in the NHS and Universities are inadequate, receiving less than 5% of that spent on cancer research. The impact of both illnesses on family life is severe but at present there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease.
They also accept cartridges, toners and stamps. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Please pass it onto family, friends, neighbours & colleagues.

If you are sending used stamps to us please use this address as we left the other office nearly 2 years ago and whilst they are redirecting our post still the office is empty and items may well go missing.
    Thank you for your support.
