Trying to estimate what my utility bills will be

I'm going to be looking to buy a house with my girlfriend in the next 12-18 months. We are both first time buyers and will be looking for somewhere north-west/west/south-west london.
I'm trying to figure out how much utility bills are going to cost so we can work out how much we can pay on a mortgage per month (food, entertainment and emergency funds excluded).
Can anyone add to or comment on the figures I've got? I'd prefer to have an slight overestimate than under.
Water £25/month
Electricity £35/month
Gas £35/month
Phoneline from £11/month (BT - just line rental).
TV License £12/month
Council Tax £100/month
Building & Contents Insurance - ?????
Cheers

Ive got my contents insurance for 20 a month, and 23 for buildings I think - Im in E3 with a 2 bed ground floor flat in a secured block . Thats with the Co-op , there may be cheaper, but Im happy with that as its ethical.
Dont forget your life assurance payments! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Hi,
Its difficult to completely estimate, as it really does depend on what size property you 'buy'. A one bed flat will have totally different consumption than a 3 bed semi etc, etc.
However - I don't want you to feel neglected!!!
Gas and elec seem about right. Water too. TV and telephone line rental are spot on too!! Council tax will depend on the area you are planning to live in. You should be able to contact the relevant councils and get an idea of the bands and their charges. Home and contents etc depend on the value of your belongings. £25 should be a good base figure - but have a look on some insurance websites to get some real ideas .
Good luck and hope this helps a little!

i think your council tax estimate may be quite low - for a house in london anyway....have a look at the council websites for a couple of the boroughs you are interested in0

I would add 10-15% to all of your figures. If you can then afford these figures you should be OK. Always better to over estimate than find yourself struggling.0

Cheers Guys

For a 1 bedroom type thing based on 2 sharing (would like a 2 bedroom but only if we're really lucky).0 -

I would agree with that - we're in a Band C property (2 bed maisonette) & moving to another (2 bed victorian mid terrace) and pay £113 which is going to rise to at least £125Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0
