Charged for using cashpoint not warned

Hi there,
I used a link cashpoint today and was annoyed to find out that I was charged 1.75! It absoultely did not warn me that there would be a charge as there was no way I would have went through with it. (This was a debit card by the way and not a credit card) I had thought that by law they have to warn you on screen if they're going to charge, is this correct? If so, does anyone know what I can do about it?
Thanks

yes they have to tell you, there should be a sign on the outside of the machine and it should ask you before you complete the transaction that there is a fee.
there should be a link on the link pages (if you'll pardon the phrasing)
will have a look for you.Ready to Go Go!0 -
That is why, in July last year, LINK introduced a range of new rules requiring cash machines to have at least three layers of warnings about charges including:
- a warning on the outside of the machine;
- a warning of the specific amount of the charge on the screen of the cash machine and;
- a requirement to ask the customer to confirm acceptance of the specific charge before completing the transaction.”
Operators of cash machines that do not comply with these rules face fines.
go to https://www.link.co.uk and check out the news section, you can complain to link directly or try your local mp because these rules were subject to a government select committee investigation last year and your mp should be interested to find out if link are doing what they say they would.Ready to Go Go!0 -
Thanks for that Jen.
Have emailed Link just now so hopefully they'll get the situation resolved. I must admit these charges are a real pet hate of mine and to be charged it without being told made me furious!
Anyway, hopefully I'll get it refunded and they'll sort the machine so other people are warned.0 -
Lets hope so! I never use the Link machines because I thought that they all always charged!Weight Loss - 102lb0
