hey im a student at uni at the moment and will be renting a house with 3 friends next year, i live far away from home so looking at maybe my boyfriend moving up to uni and moving in with me and sharing a room.
the house was rented to us at 58pw for the 3 big rooms, and 50pw for the tiny room. im going to talk to the landlord to see how rent would work if my boyfriend did move up here but first wanted to see what u guys thought could happen.
do u think the landlord will want 224 pw (3 times 58 and 50)for the house and me and my friends sort out how we r dividing the rent ourselves. or do u think he will want my boyfriend to pay 58pw as well as what i pay for my room.
thanks in advance (sorry for such a long post
, and if the answer is obvious never privatly rented before)

Before you ask your LL, have you asked your flatmates?
They might not want to share with a couple. Or, if they are ok with it, would you all move partners in? Then there would be 8 not 4 living in the house. That is a huge difference. Is the living room big enough? Are there enough chairs? Enough bathrooms?
Discuss it with them first, & see if they are ok with it, & decide how the bills will be split if the LL agrees, & only then ask the LL.
I'd expect the rent to stay the same, so you & your boyfriend would pay £58 for the room, BUT that you'd each pay a share of the bills, so these would be split by 5 instead of 4. Also discuss with your flatmates what would happen if you split up - will you then split the bills by 4?0 -
thanks for the reply, yeh my housemates are fine with the plan (only a plan at mo), 2 are a couple anyway (they wanted seperate rooms though). obviously we would share the bills out equally, just wanted to c how the rent would work.
Do your think the landlord would have any problems granting this?

Is your boyfriend planning to be a student? if he isnt he will be liable for the council tax of the entire house (as all students are exempt), he may get a small discount but not much.0
