Changing Direct Debit dates

Hi guys,

Just trying to organise my budget and I'm wondering if its possible to change the dates that direct debits leave my account? I understand that I need to take it up with the individual companies ie Orange/the gym etc but just after advice on other peoples experiences of doing this, how easy it was, success rates etc?

I get paid on the 20th and would rather everything came out in the couple of days after that than having them spread out all over the month like they are at the moment.

I'm sure this has been done before, but I couldn't seem to find anything on the search so I apologise - probably wasn't looking hard enough :o

Well instead you could do this:

    - Open up another current account
    - Have your pay go straight into that
    - When you get paid transfer the money you need for DDs into the account where the DDs come out of
    - The rest is there for you to spend without worrying about bills

This is what a lot of people on here do.

I have a bit of an overdraft so the idea is have my pay and direct debits stay going in and out of my main current account, then I have another account which I transfer x amount to each month to cover my food and petrol so whatever is left over comes off my overdraft.

I'll bear it in mind for when I finally get rid of it - I'm going to use some of my savings to get rid of the final 'bulge' (looking at is as debt liposuction after gastric band surgery on my finances ;) ) but I need to get it down some more yet. Thanks

Orange wouldn't change mine - it came out on the 26th and I got paid on the 27th but they wouldn't swap the date. I had to cancel the DD and pay the bill via online banking one day later!

Some companies will offer you alternate 'collection' dates .... others won't. But do consider that voluntarily bringing your DD dates forward, for administrative convenience, isn't very MSE.

Mine are well spread over the month. And I move most of my funds out, into a better paying account, after pay day .... then bring money back in a few chunks to meet the DDs. But I do have an agreed o/d in place - in the (unlikely?) event I make a bit of a mess of it!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

I want to bring them forward to help me get a grip on my budget/spending and as a result of this help me get rid of my debt, which I thought was MSE

In an ideal world I'd be good at budgeting and wouldn't need to do this but in an ideal world I'd have more control/will power when it comes to my finances and wouldn't have any debt
