Home Made Chilli in Fridge

I cooked a chilli on Saturday night but made way to much and have kept it in the fridge. We went to MIL's for dinner yesterday, so will it still be alright to eat tonight, or is just 24 hours?

Ta muchly!

It'll be just lovely. I made a bulk load last night as I cook for myself so wanted it to last me 3 nights but have got enough for a further 2 portions to go in the freezer! Yummy! I always think meat tastes nicer the day after you've cooked it anyway...!

So long as cooked meat is eaten within 48 hours it'll be fine. Longer than that and it's a bit iffy supposedly. I never have leftovers, my kids eat everything. As for chilli, there's no such thing as leftover chilli in my house. Kids love it.

Re-heated properly it should be fine. I wouldn't keep prepared dishes longer than three days tho.

Chilli gets better if its kept for a day or two. I try to make it at least a day before I eat it and then keep it in the fridge. It's important to make sure its reaheated until its very hot.

I used to work with someone who put a pot of chilli on to cook on a Monday, had a portion every night for dinner and kept on adding ingredients to the pot all week

Yours should be fine - some dishes are even better the next day (or a couple of days later).

That method of cooking is practiced in many countries still, indeed keeping the stockpot going in commercial kitchens is still done, providing whatever it is you have cooked is either kept very cold or kept very hot you can keep on adding to it ad-infinitum. Remember the song about the West Indian "Dutchy" that is a cooking pot that some have reputedly been kept on the go over generations :D
