I belive they are unhappy with people going into store purely looking for mispriced goods to receive R&R on them. Dont shoot me only repeating what I have been told but it would seem they feel that the policy is inplace to protect genuine customers against mistakes made regarding overcharge. Not for those customers who want a weeks free shopping (his words not mine :)

Playing devils advocate, I guess Tesco dont overcharge on purpose. But yes I agree we shouldnt have to check our receipts to ensure we are charged correctly!

Anyhow there are discussions to change the policy to something like refund the difference and an apology voucher to spend instore on next visit. I guess this is pretty much like Asdas policy.

  • Actually, I don't think the voucher/e-coupon issue has anything to do with R&R. Chances are it's got something to do with this. Due to this issue, Tesco are looking into their internet codes, including places where they've been posted and used by thousands of people.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

The R&R issue is something that Tesco HO are aware of, the internet codes and the R&R are linked only in respect that both are costing Tesco profit!. I was aware a while ago of the problems with staff using codes and understand the article you posted relates only to the worst case of abuse by Tesco Staff. I belive a number of others (throughout UK) are also in trouble for this.

Tesco are keen (obviously as most successful businesses would be) to reduce their exposure to losses (of any kind). I understand they have a number of issues that they are looking to resolve the vouchers being the first on the agenda and will be closely followed by the R&R.

Speaking as someone who regularly spends 120 - 140 a week on an online Tescos shop, I feel I am entitled to try to at least offset the cost of delivery by finding a discount code. I don't see anyone as system abusers - I blame Tesco for not allowing free delivery for orders over a certain amount, as other supermarkets do (none of which deliver to my area, unfortunately). I personally wouldn't bother having a tiny order delivered just to get money off, but everyone's circumstances are different. I just wonder how much Tesco are going to lose while they sort out their internal problems.

I have a friend who works within Tesco. Tesco are aware of the abuse relating to Tesco Vouchers and also the R&R Policy. They are currently reveiwing the way that the vouchers are issued as it would seem that over 10 Million pounds worth of vouchers have been used this year alone against peoples online shopping orders.

Wow £10 million in the 8 weeks of this year? or is it this financial year?.

They have 150,000-200,000 grocery orders a week so that would mean 1.2million-1.6million orders so far this year. For them to have had £10m of vouchers used would mean that over 1million of those orders used at least a £10 off voucher.

Considering profit margins are under 5% you can see why they have thrown their toys out of the pram, at the current rate we would be making tesco.com a loss making operation!.

Yes I wrote to them about 18 months ago asking if they would ever consider making it free delivery for orders over a certain amount or have some free delivery days. They never replied.

Then stop using them. They currently have a monopoly so they don't need to have good customer service. I don't use them anymore because their staff are snobbish in my local store. I use a combination of Lidl and Morrisons instead, cheaper and much friendlier.
