Forgot to take cash from the ATM

Has anyone forgotten to take withdrawn money from a cash machine? I know after a timeout period, the money is taken back by the cash machine. I'm just wondering what happens next? I've informed my bank of what I think happenned. Has the cash been credited back into your account after investigation?
Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Most places balance their ATMs at least once a week (some do it far more often), so they'll check what's called the "divert cassette" where any unclaimed notes get placed by the machine.
Once they investigate your query, typically the cash gets recredited. MAy take up to 7 days, depending on the bank.

Happened to me too.
Some girls at the cashpoint said the machine had taken my money back. I went into the branch where it happened and left all my details. It took about 3 or 4 days ( from memory ) to get the money credited back. They had to reconcile the machine, which got delayed, to confirm they had £ 200 over. But as I said, I'd spoken to them and told them what had happened, don't know the procedure if they just have too much money in machine ie whether they track the owner down.0 -
Overall, the situation doesn't sound too dire then. Being optimistic, I don't think I dropped the money. So hopefully, once the ATM is balanced, I'll be refunded. If I remember, I'll post the outcome.0

My Fiance did the same thing, she got a phone call from the Bank within a few days. She didn't even phone the bank because she was convinced that someone had nicked it.0
