BT Telephone / ISP Providers whilst bankrupt

Hi Everyone
Hope you can help out a newbie. Since my partner lost their job it looks increasingly like we will have to go bankrupt. Would we be able to keep our BT landline? We currently have our internet through o2. Would we be able to keep our internet as the T&C appear to say not, and if not, will any ISP provider allow us broadband access whilst bankrupt or is the inevitable Pay and Go Mobile Broadband our only option?
Thanks in advance for your replies...

Hello and welcome AE,
You can definitely keep your BT line ( do you have any arrears with them that will be going into the BR pot?) As for BB I know a couple of people have had problems with Virgin - what about Sky? They are usually BR friendly. I have an all in one package with them - phone, TV and BB and it is all OK.
I am sure you will be able to find a provider without having to go payg.

Hi SA
Thanks for the welcome and prompt response.
No arrears with BT at all although billed quarterly by them.
We do have SKY tv but our contract with o2 only started in January of this year - just before my partner learned of their redundancy.
Would we have to wait until after bankruptcy to see whether SKY would keep us as customers before asking them about broadband also?
The whole process appears to be a mindfield and quite scary! But the thought of jobseeking without the internet is not something we look forward to, hence asking the question...

Hi SA
Thanks for the welcome and prompt response.
No arrears with BT at all although billed quarterly by them. You will be fine then, I think

Would we have to wait until after bankruptcy to see whether SKY would keep us as customers before asking them about broadband also? They will keep you. You can always ask them about broadband now, if only to see if they can cover your area.

AE
You will get sorted out, don't worry!

Hi Kas
So did you tell BT, SKY and AOL that you were a bankrupt undischarged and then commence services. I had heard that BT and SKY were reluctant to take BR's on? Obviously I would need MAC code from o2 as and when but this sounds promising... thanks!

hello im with sky and bt and have had no problems with either of them since going br.
im not sure for definate if this will work but are you wanting to get rid of the broadband and go to sky broadband? if so if you ring them up a few days before br sign up and just say your contract with another supplier is ending can you sign up to them, it takes a few weeks to get the broadband account set up. but you can include your current contract with the broadband provider in the br pot.
i done this with energy companies as i was trying to switch to another company but as i was in arrears they wouldnt let me go so i sign up and as soon as the arears with prievious company got put into the br pot i am now with a new supplierIf you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain0 -

just remember if they dont ask
dont say anything. It might not be in there contract
to ask. No point in rocking the boat.

Thanks for the advice Lisa. However, our contract with o2 is a 12 month contract so switching now to Sky wouldn't be an option would it as they would request MAC code from o2 and o2 wouild not release as we are under contract???
I've tried seeing what SKY's T&C say about BR but without much success really.0 -
Re reading your first post - who is actually going BR? Your OH or both of you?
If it is just your OH why don't you transfer the account into your name only?
As you are not in arrears with either BT or O2 I would think both would stay open anyway, especially if you don't mention it.
