This is quite usual - most doors from DIY places come without "furniture" as they call it. It's not particularly difficult to fit hinges, locks and handles, but is fiddly and time-consuming. If you're prepared to take your time over it, you'll be able to find instructions in any DIY book or online.
However, if you're not confident about doing this, you'll need to enlist a carpenter to do the job. Either that, or a friend who's got a reasonable amount of DIY experience. Either way, if you buy the handles and locks yourself you can at least hunt around for bargains and make sure you get something that you like the look of.
You don't mention if this is an interior or exterior door. If it's an interior, and you're just talking about privacy lock, like on a bathroom door, then this will be quite cheap. If it's an external door, then I would suggest it's worth investing in a decent 5-lever mortice lock, for security.0 -
thank you for your reply.
sorry it is for an internal door. i need 4 one for the living room, two for the bedroom and one for the downstairs loo.
their the white cheap ones you can get from b&q only £14 but of course they have no 'furniture'. in his prime my dad could do it. DH has only attempted it when the mechanism broke in one of the other internal doors and needed replacing.0 -
you need doors properly hung or it's a waste of money, no matter how cheap they are. Ask around friends for a good joiner, get a price per door from him, Wickes and local ironmongers who supply the trade might be cheaper for door handles etc.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
