You can also use wraps/pitta breads/bagels as pizza bases..........or you can buy pizza base mixes in most supermarkets.....or if you want a recipe I can give you one (dead easy!).
Re the rice, just make wedges to go with the chilli or baked tatties.
Re the garlic bread I make it in advance and then heat in oven.

  • i have found a fool proof way of cooking rice. I fill a measuring jug with rice upto the 400ml mark. I then rinse and rinse it throughly until the water runs clear and has washed off the starch. I then put it in a saucepan, cover with 600mls of water and bring to the boil. Then i boil it for 5 minutes without a lid. When the 5 minutes is up, most of the water will be gone. Put a tightly fit lid on, and reduce the heat to low. Then keeping the lid on, and not peeking cook for a further 15 minutes. This method has worked everytime and makes really fluffy rice. enough for 6. hope you all have a great weekend.
  • I would cook a big pan of chilli for friday night, and serve it with oven chips/wedges, or rice and tortillas, and then get them to take you out for dinner saturday night! (maybe have something in ready that you can cook if you decide to stay in, but that will keep, so you dont feel like you have to stay in and eat if they would rather eat out..IYSWIM!)

I would also stock up on nibbles, maybe some big bags of crisps, popcorn, houmous (bought or home made) olives etc. to have with drinks or as snacks!

I have cooked chilli in the past too but am scared of cooking rice.

ocht away!! dead easy. Get some basmati - a mugful usually does 2 folks. put in a pot and pour over boiling water - add salt, boil for 15 mins - stir/agitate and add more water if necessary - after 15 mins drain in a collander and serve - never fails!

problem people make with rice is they wash it. With basmati - any impurities come out when boiling anyway:confused:

    Snap! They do sound amazing.
  • I've made banana and Snickers bar muffins... I suspect the Mars bar ones are similar:

    Mom's Snicker's Banana Bread

    Butter or margarine 1/2 C.
    Granulated sugar 1 C.
    Eggs 2
    Mashed ripe bananas 3
    Snickers (or Mars) bars 2

    Flour 1 3/4 C.
    baking soda 1 tsp.
    Baking powder 1/2 tsp
    Salt 1/2 tsp

Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs one at a time, beating until smooth. Add mashed bananas and blend in. Chop chocolate bars into chocolate chip-sized (or slightly bigger) pieces and set aside.

In second bowl, stir flour with baking soda, baking powder, salt and chocolate bar chunks. Add to banana mixture stirring only to moisten. Pour into muffin cups. Bake at 400F (200C) for 20-25 minutes until inserted toothpick comes out clean. Let stand 10 min. Remove from pan and place on cake rack to cool. Use Tupperware to store.
