right EVENING ALL.... iv only been dipping in and out last few days ! how "bee" you all ?? :D

well i survived the horse riding lesson... BF thoroughly enjoyed himself,[this could have gone SOOOOO wrong if hed hated his birthday surprise :rotfl:] he got a lovely hefty colored cob and i got what was the tallest horse in the world !! i needed steps and then i felt like i needed a stenna chair lift for the rest of the journey to get in the saddle !!:rotfl:
i so wanted his horse but he was smitten and spent his time chatting away to his hoss in tones i did not recognise !!:D the instructor told BF he was a natural and should persue it which led to discussions over lunch on the lines of " how about a horse trek in mongolia?"....after freeing my crayfish and haddock starter from choking me, i did sort of mention he MAY need a tad more lessons before setting off.......:rotfl:
we had an amazing meal at the resteraunt at the stables....truly beautifull tasty food... we were stuffed and so we decided [sorry did i say WE, i meant BF] to play 9 holes of pitch and putt ..... sounding like i know even the slightest thing about golf i can tell you it was a PAR 3 [?] course and i averaged 5:o I told BF that as it was his birthday id let him WIN....:p
we got home late afternoon, sat in the garden with a cuppa and listened to his tale of every move he and his hoss made through out the lesson.... inbetween him ringing /answering people and regailing the info again....
ME FINKS IT WAS A SUCCESS.....:)

wednesday was a chill out day and a planning of fences day, im building a SHACK in the back garden so's i / we can sit out under the verandah of it on an evening...watching the animals etc. i am using all old reclaimed wood and tin roofing etc, BF is going to make a long hurdle type fence across the back to seperate the animogs from the garden which im extending.

LIR.....sooooo it was beehives eh !! well done, id like some over the road if i didnt have mabel there, id worry shed get stung !!
i may be able to get you a little boat, iv asked a mate whos a harbour master.....you may have to repaint and cover up a name tho......only joking :D

CHOILLE... glad youve sorted your water....id love to see all the things you describe, you have a way with words that makes me have a complete imaginary idea of all you are surrounded by..:)

CTC .... card enroute to you 1st thing in the morning:)

:):):):) to anyone else so's you dont feel left out....:D

I cannot even find a reference to banking bees!

Here is the BBCT identification guide http://www.bumblebeeconservation.org.uk/bumblebees_id.htm

You have a few rare ones up you way.

I wonder if it is a local name - I must ask the guy who told me that.

There certainly is a lot of bees about. I have a lot of blaeberries growing wild down the croft & you get bilberry bees - think some may be those.
I've planted cranesbill geranium & that is supposed to be a good thing as is budliahs - which I have a few different ones that are now welll established - plus a huge amount of broom that I've introduced & is seeding everywhere. But there's no chemies here & all the wild stuff - heather etc - so plenty for them.

Alfie - sounds like you had a good time & are now getting all busy again with you plotting more stuff.
Does anyone believe that we are nearly at mid-summer?
We had hail 'n alsorts today. Thinking of starting a petition up.
    Night night.

We inherited Geranium phaeum here. It's a bit of a miserable-looking thing, and I was going to have it out, but it flowers early, and now the greenfinches come to pick the seeds off. When they've done, I'll strim it right down, then it'll do the same thing again before the growing year ends.

Buddleias are fantastic plants for insects, though to keep them looking good takes more effort than many give them. I had one or two rare ones, but they didn't make it through last winter. :( I picked up a new one this spring which has very strongly variegated foliage and is said to be naturally compact. So far, it has grown slowly for a buddleia.

The hens were really kicking off last night at around 9.30, with most of them up on the windbreak or milling about below it, instead of going to bed. I thought they were just partying, so I resolved to get them up & out very early. Then DW noticed that we'd closed the pop-hole earlier when we'd wanted to catch one that was inside.....Oops! :o So, no punishment for the hens, but I'm still up & about at 5am.....

It got down to 1.4c outside again last night! Bit fed up with this now. Keep your tomatoes above 10c we are advised, easier said than done. :(

It's only just got up to 7c in the greenhouse :D

We had cloud cover when I went to bed and it felt warm. It seems to be colder nights for longer this year, for me anyway :p everyone else seems to be alright.

Nah, it's been coldish here, because we've gone through loads of logs that I thought were all ready for the autumn. Once the Aga is off (mid-April) we've nothing else to fall back on, except a fan heater.....and electric's dearer than logs.

At least your greenhouse will have a door. The inherited polytunnel has none, so the cold & wind whistles right through, and the leaves on the toms say they don't care for it much. We ate that first early tomato from Real Seeds yesterday and it tasted fine, much to my surprise. :) Ugly, straggly plants though.

    Tomato already <jealous> :D
    Which one was it?

My Golden sweet mangetout are just coming ready, seemed to have stopped at about 3 - 4 feet for some reason.
The Bijou have grown a bit taller and are flowering now, both sown at the same time. Interestingly the GS are ready at the same time as some Oregon Sugar pod, which were sown 4 weeks earlier and are only 2 feet high.

The tomato's the Ben's Early Vine.

We are eating the Bijous now, but they are quite floppy plants and don't climb too well. Mine are only about 4' 6".

I'm growing (trying to grow) another mangetout pea called Delikata, but having germination problems with it. Haven't found the ideal one yet!
