How to share someone else's house

A friend would like to share a flat with its owner. She would like it to be in easy reach of Central London. I do not know anyone but I remember that there are agencies and / or web sites that offer say elderly people who would like help in running a home with a person needing cheap accomodation. Does any one know of the way to find such offers?
I also recall there are agencies offering housekeepers the chance to live in quite splendid houses in exchange for their looking after the houses whilst the owners are away. Any ideas on how to find these jobs.
