Rain - yes there are 3 electric raidiatirs in the house, but I only have them on 5/6 hours a day when I'm in the property. Are they really that expensive (must wear more layers!!)
Yes they can be that expensive! Take a look at the power rating, there should be one on there, I'm guessing they are in the region of 2-3 kW? If you have them on a thermostat and say they are on 50% of the time, and assuming they are 2kW:
2kW x 3 hours x 3 radiators = 18kWh per day
180 days x 18 kWh = 3240 kWh
At 10p per kWh, thats £324 just for heating!
Ok, I know you aren't there for most of the time, but the rest are estimates, so it'll balance out I expect.
Yep, layers certainly work and it's much cheaper for a jumper than turning the heating up!0 -
andyfuk - thank you for explaining it in such a way - I had no idea they were this expensive but your calculations - although an estimate - really bring it home!
No more heating for me - I shall wrap up warm.
THANK you all, looks like I will have a hefty bill this time but know better now so wont be in the same position againNew surname New start!
