debit card and air new zealand

Hi all,

Hope someone can give me some advice on this. Flew to New Zealand on November 26th 2008 and at the airport we were given the chance to upgrade to premium economy for £300 each (£600 total) as it was a special trip we decided to treat ourselves. We payed by debit card.

Yesterday I received an email from Air New zealand saying that they had not processed the payment and could we get in touch with new card details. 3.5 months later) So my question is how long can a company sit on a payment for before they process it as I always thought debit cards were for immediate payment from your account. Stupidly I should have noticed that it hadnt been processed . Any advice or ideas on how to approach them would be great.

many thanks

jan

    Hi,

I have had something similar happen to me - but not quite as much (about £100) and it was 2 months afterwards ... suddenly £100 disappeared from my account - thought it had been nicked - until details came through ... not impressed.

So yes, I believe that they can do this ... was it done via paper copy - ie. you signed a voucher, where you were given copy? Because that is what happened to me & they forgot to put it through?

Make sure of course that you have not paid it & if not paid, bite bullet & pay - maybe push for discount!!

I am sure that someone who has more legal experience than I, can tell you whether you HAVE to pay - but I would.

    Be Honest.
You knew they hadn't taken the money and thought you would "keep quiet" and hope they didn't notice.

A "debt" can be pursued for up to 6 years.
Card payments can be taken at any time up to 6 months after the event without any reference to the cardholder.

Thank you to all who took the trouble to post any information.

A special thumbs down to advent1122 who jumped to conclusions. Maybe this reflects his own attitude to honesty I found his comment to be rude and aggressive.

As a new poster on this site I thought it would be network of people pooling there knowledge and not accusing people.

Again thanks to all those with constructive help
