14 days to update overdraft limit on internet banking (nationwide bs)

Has anyone ever heard this one? I went over my overdraft limit on my Nationwide flexaccount using internet banking. I paid a bill on march 2, and the screen told me I would be overdrawn, but safely within my overdraft limit. All good. Then today I discovered 5 unpaid direct debits, including my mortgage. I look into it online, and lo, my overdraft had gone.

Called branch, they put me through to collections. Collections stated overdraft went down by £100 on 28 Feb. But why didn't it show on March 2, allowing me to go £9.95 overdrawn? It can take 14 days to update online account, said she. 14 days.

by Thursday (because it was too late to count today as a working day - that was at 10:30am this morning) 11 direct debits will have bounced, cos einstein here has them all coming out at the beginning of the month. Thats £330 in charges, so far, 8 of these direct debits are to the nationwide for insurances, mortgages, loans etc...how ironic. And guess what? I've already used up my one magical get-out-of-charges-free card.

Fourteen days to update? anyone?

Sounds like their error and a letter of complaint should get the charges refunded.

Also sounds like you need to give yourself a bit more breathing space to avoid operating right at the limit though.

    R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Yeah, Nationwide are very approachable I'm sure a letter will do the trick
  • Definitely write a letter and state your displeasure. At times like these, companies will bend for their customers and patrons.
  • Thanks people,

yeah, you're right, Rafter, I have it all way too tight at the start of the month. Will try letter and let y'all know...gulp!
