Basic Port Office account question

I've got an 'invitation letter' from the jobcentre for me to give to the Post Office to open one of their 'benefit-only' accounts. That's all well and good but I was wondering do they give you the sort code and account number straight away?

I just rang the Post Office helpline and was put on hold for 25 minutes before getting through to a rather drippy-sounding agent who said it takes 10 days but didn't sound sure at all. I asked her if she could get it confirmed so she put me on hold, 10 minutes later I hung up as she still hadn't come back.

I know with banks they can usually give you a sort code and account number straight away so was wondering if the Post Office can?

I don't think you get a sort code or account number with the PO account (although I may be wrong) - the benefits office are automatically informed of your account details.

No, you do get details, and you pass these on to the Jobcentre. Was just wondering how long it takes for them to come through.
