Flatshares

I have been looking for a while for a flatshare to move into. I did rent alone before but it is far too expensive and I decided to look for a flatshare to try get my money situation sorted out. Back at my mums just now.
Is anyone else finding that the flatshares around at the moment seem to be pretty poor? I get the feeling that the only ones around just now are the ones that have been around for ages with nobody wanting to move into them (for very good reason). Or is this just the case in Edinburgh?
I am getting quite annoyed trying to look for one that is decent... maybe I'm just expecting too much!
