Another problem - Dishwasher help!

My dishwasher is about 3-4 yrs old - this week it doesnt seem to want to clean properly :-(

I have pulled out all the bits in the bottom that come out easily and cleaned them all but it doesnt seem to have helped - any ideas what the problem could be or what I could try to fix it - I really dont understand things like this!!

We had a similar problem a while back.

Someone suggested that this happens if the water is not being 'sprayed' correctly onto the dishes as the machine is washing.

Sure enough, we found it was food debris clogging the holes of the water jets in the blades which spin to distribute the water upwards onto the dishes.

We took the blades out (ours are just clipped in) and cleaned out the holes with the end of a wire hanger. That cured the problem.

The food debris in question was rice. A friend had come to dinner and put a serving bowl used for rice in the washer without rinsing off the excess rice first.

Will give that a go 2nite - will try anything to get my beloved dishwasher back to working order!!

On a serious note, have you tried one of the various dishwasher cleaners?

Good idea - I think it always helps to use a dishwasher cleaner every couple of months and check the filters every couple of weeks.

Another thought - have you changed to 3 in 1 tablets in the last 3 months or so. If you have it could be this that has affected the wash quality. Using seperate detergent, rinse aid and salt, I think always gives the best results.

I havent changed dishwaster tabs - use the cheap spar ones!!
I fill up the rinse aid and salt and it made no difference :-(
I used a cleaner about a few weeks ago, might try that again too.

My dishwasher is not spraying at all - do you think the holes could be clogged up and how can I clean them?

First do a visual check to see if the holes are blocked.

If the holes appear to be blocked (they don't have to be fully blocked to impair washing efficiency) then look at how the rotor blades are connected - usually they are a push fit - possibly with some sprung clips to retain them. If they are not difficult to remove, take them out and flush them through.

what make and model of appliance do you have, it could be the holes choked but more likely to be a blocked motor impellor or worse case a siezed motor, any problems email me for more advice.
