need new kitchen-any advice?

Our kitchen units are falling to bits. We have wondered about replacing the doors and doing some repair work on the drawers, but done some price checks on doors and they seem pricey too.
Can anyone recommend either good kitchen door replacement company or kitchen unit supplier.
Went in to B and Q and even there stuff seems quite expensive.
Thanks lots

Try ebay - depending on the size of your budget and existing kitchen, you could probably get a whole kitchen, use the doors and discard the rest. We managed to bag one from our friend that had wood doors, which we'll strip, sand and paint cream.

Alternatively, start nosing round the DIY stores regularly for the next few months and find out when the sales are going to be and prepare accordingly. We did this with our bathroom suite and managed to get for 40% of the original cost.

Our kitchen sink however, came from one of the big sell offs that B&Q occasionally have outside the store fronts, and we got that for £30 instead of £120 because it was a linen-finished one (personally it's the best sink I've ever had and shows no scratches at all). Also managed to pick up a whole bucketful of nickel-brushed light switches and sockets at the same time for a couple of pounds each, which we've changed all of our old ones round the house for.

Doing a kitchen up is not cheap and you have to box really clever to bring the costs down.

  • Maybe look out for ex-display kitchens? For example I went to Ikea in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago, they are re-doing their kitchen department and building new display kitchens, so they were selling a lot of the current display off cheap. But a new kitchen is going to be an expense however you do it I think.

Have you got any friends/freinds of friends in the building trade? They may be able to get kitchen doors etc. for you at trade prices. I am currently buying a whole new kitchen, but if I just wanted doors I could get them cheap from a work colleague's husband, who works for a local DIY/building supplier.

My husband renovates the odd house, is onto his fifth now and he always buys B&Q kitchens. He reckons for the price they are good quality, and we rent two of the houses out and the kitchens stand up to a lot of wear and tear (students in one) They usually have a big sale in January, (missed that then....)
