I paid off mortgage in two years because of this site

well done prudent
Its inspiring to read of achievements others have made. My (our) finances have become so much better since the first day I picked up Martins book and began using this site.
My next thing is to look at how much I can overpay each month on mortgage - something I would not have considered years ago

Paying off my mortgage will be my next biggest challenge after I have paid all my debts (hopefully by the end of this year) I am paying an extra £20 a month at the minute but something is better than nothing.

Well done Prudent, I bet your so proud of yourself :Abecame debt free December 060 -
Well done Prudent, you are an inspiration. Are you going to treat yourself to something now that you have the mortgage paid and if so what?Penny xxx

Well done, Prudent. I agree with dinkydee - you and your daughter deserve a treat now. Thanks for the inspiration you have given me - don't think I'll pay off my mortgage - only 5yrs to go now and we have other priorities - No 1 son at uni and No2 son going in 18mths, then daughter to support through whatever she decides to do post 16 - that's the way the money goes - if this site had been around 8-10 yrs ago maybe I could have done it! Still am saving lots thanks to all the help from this site - should be able to support son No 2 with savings, not from monthly wages like I am now. If only I'd thought about all this (and had more money) when they were small. Still I don't regret being at home most of the time when they were under 5 etc - I enjoyed it. Good luck to all mortgage free wannabes.Weight loss - here we go again - watch this space!

Just when I get excited about planning a holiday I read this site and come to my senses! I'll be getting ahead with my repayments and this will be much easier with all the great tips and support from MSE.
Well done Prudent. You have set a great example to your daughter, showing her the value of money and that goals can be achieved. Congratulations.
Thank you to MSE contributers who are a great help to keep me motivated to take care with my spending.0 -

I know I should but saving money has become so much of a habit...
The first year after I paid it off (last year) I replaced my car -by saving up for a nearly new one.
This year I am taking my daughter on a five day trip to London and still to book a holiday abroad for us both. However these will still be done on a budget. London trip is on cheapie travelodge accomodation. Money saving has just become a way of life.0 -

Hi Prudent, good idea getting the car and going on a break with your daughter. We stayed in a travellodge in Kingscross, very reasonable, got a good deal online. Any way I was just curious as to what people do once they have paid off their mortgage, so thanks for answering.Penny xxx
