It's when your pc "de-fragments" (hence defrag), clears itself up and makes the maximum use of space, and can speed up your computer. It's like an IT dust and polish!
There are different ways to do it, depending upon which Operating System you have- if you have XP, then it's in Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, System Clean Up (I think)....it's different for others.
HTH.....
ETA: Toots, that's brilliant news, and must be a relief. I'm so pleased for you.
I'm just decluttering a sarnie, and then looking to pull myself together. As well as (minor) flying this evening, I have my homework for my dressmaking course. Which I have had a week to get done!
Hugs to all, off to look at tomorrows list.
Cheers v.much for that, we have vista. Does it speed it up? Will ask techie nerds tomorrow at work.
How good, doing dressmaking. I always cut down the fold line:eek:  :eek:Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

~geek alert~
I'm going to be really geeky here and expand on ZCC72's answer. Just because I can.
When your computer saves a file to the hard disk it often splits it up into little bits to make use of spare space on the disk. This means when it wants to retrieve that file for you to see it, it has to scurry around finding all the little bits that make up that file or document.
When you defragment, you tell the computer to look at all those little pieces of files that are scattered around all over the place and join them up into one space (bit like a jigsaw puzzle) so that when you say 'show me', it can do it quicker.
You don't really need to do it every week. In fact, you don't need to do it every month unless you're running out of disk space. I have never done it in my life and my computer(s) still run brilliantly.
~geek alert off~I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Hi All big hugs to all who need them.
We had our meeting today and they have announced up to another 35 people  to go and the 30 day consultation period starts next Tuesday.
Hey Ho what can we do?? Not a blooming thing just makes it worse as DH and i both work there.
Cleared all the washing in the house to make room for all the cleaning i have to do tomorrow. I have tuesday, wed, thursday to do so am not going to have time to worry about the work thing;)
And i also have to get my BP checked, have blood tests and go to the gym three more times before Sat. When did they invent the 48 hour day!!!!
At least if we have to sell the house it will be nice and clean
