London Mint Office - any feedback?

Warning - don't get involved until you've read their t's & c's.
Nothing to do with Royal Mint.

This got a mention a while back on gold buying and I was wondering if anyone went through with it?

I recently read an article from a gold dealer saying that they are probably ok if you only take up things you want but for coin collecting they are to be avoided.

It looks like you can get a cheap sovereign, (£119).
There's nothing on the web site about what happens after that and nothing in the t's & c's - just that you can call to stop them sending you marketing communications.
I'm guessing there must be some way to get further money out of you otherwise it's just a loss rather than loss leader.

Just wondered if anyone had foundout how hey work?

Yup. I posted my results before, but it must have been in one of Asheron's rampy gold threads that got deleted.

Got my £119 sovereign, a wee bag to jiggle it about in, a collectors history of sovereigns and a pair of white cotton gloves so's not to damage it when showing it off....:rotfl:

I've only had one email from them since offering something I didn't want, and a note through the door from the postman saying they've got a package for me at the sorting office, as I wasn't in when he called. I won't be picking it up because I suspect it's a not so cheapo gold coin this time. They'll automatically return it to London Mint within three weeks, so they'll get the message eventually.

So, unlike the bookclubs etc, because they have to send the merchandise by registered delivery, you don't have to accept it, approval it, reject it and go through all the hassle of posting back stuff you don't want. That's the flaw in their business model which benefits those of us who want a cheapo sov, as against the bookclubs of old...

    >> a collectors history of sovereigns
    That might be nice.
    I take it you've paid the £119?

Let us know if there's any follow up on the return - or any future attempts.
Have you let them know you're not intrested in anything further?

I actually got mine last year round November, but I didn't pay them until late January as I was on a rather long Christmas break, but I had to pay a £2.50 late payment fee as there were a few demands when I arrived home. I didn't bother challenging it or anything, and they were quite nice on the phone and happily sent a paid in full receipt.

The collectors history is only a few sheets you could read all about it on wiki.

I'll post if there are any subsequent problems with returns, but I haven't bothered telling them I don't want any more stuff. I may do that, Dunno. See how it goes.

Indeed, but I saw them advertising on TV and thought their advertising style was designed to deceive.

It starts with a black screen with white writing and a voiceover saying "There follows an announcement on behalf of the London Mint Office" as if it is something official. Then it switches to a guy talking about the issuing of some special edition coins.

And the Royal Mint does have a London Office (and a Perth Office, ...).

Well, boredom caused me to dabble in this.
Has anyone else had calls from foreign boiler room brokers shortly afterwards?
    e.g. Hamilton Associates, StanleyBrightmore

I think it's a coincidence. I was contacted by a scam land seller some time ago and think it's been passed on from there without the warning that they're wasting their time.Actually I think this seems quite good (so far) and the company seems reasonable - see how it progresses and if the cancellation takes ok.
Hope the sovereign is genuine - don't know how I would tell.
I think it's a limit of one per household - I thnik they will let the offer go through if they think they can rope you in for more. Refusing the first coin because it was wrong probably makes it look as though you would carry on with them.
