Question on salary and bank accounts..

Hi all

Im on the nightshift so trying to get this sorted so I can leave word with my boss in the morning

I have an account with CB, and recently opened a new one with Halifax, who wont give me a card until its credited, so I was going to just arrange for my wages to be paid into the new one (Friday)... but is it possible to have my employer split (just for this month) my salary between my 2 bank accounts, say like 75% for new acc, and 25% for the one I have just now, just so I have access to cash until my card comes through?

Im not sure if this is an "at employers discretion" type of situation or if this is something quite normal

any help would be appreciated! cheers

as an afterthought, to save any hassle I could just have it all paid into my new account... Im assuming you would then be able to go into branch for access to your money until you get a card??? (sorry, Im a digital-era guy! not been in a bank since I was a child)

Highly unlikely your employer would apportion between accounts. It costs them for BACS (Direct Credit?) transfers ... and their accounting records likely don't provide for concurrent target accounts?

You only have to credit the Halifax account with £1000 sometime during March. So just set up an SO from your existing account ... then SO it back again next day. If you're 'digital' then getting the Halifax account online is easy ...... and you can possibly FP the £1k back rather than SO it. Or you can deposit cash into Halifax ... then FP it back again immediately?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

I would leave it to go to your old account then take £100 along to the Halifax and pay it in, then you will get your card sent out. It will take a week or so to get the card and PIN, so use your present account meantime.

Why use cash when you can transfer the £100 to the Halifax account via online banking without leaving the house?

As others have said, you only need to credit the account with £100 to receive the card. You can transfer the money out again the next day if need be.

Both of mine came through very quickly. Within a week of depositing the £100 over the counter.

You would need to send the money from your existing account so they would need to use internet banking from their existing account :) May also be able to use telephone banking
