I have just come back from a friends house raving about her 'real wood floor'....which turned out on closer inspection to be linoleum! I could not believe it, I really had to get down and feel to see that it was not real...it was totally amazing, and we are going to use it in our next project. It was from Next , £10.00 per square metre..but there are cheaper ones out there which look as just as good. ( Compared to B&Q laminate....the really cheap ones are awful, they are an unatural yellowy orange colour, and warp and bulge really quickly)

If you do decide to go for carpet I feel I need to add that I personally wouldn't go for cheap carpet as it looks shabby pretty quickly, especially the area's that get the most traffic, ie; doorways, in front of sofa etc.

The previous owner's of my house had cheap carpet laid a year before I moved in & I had to have it all ripped out as it looked dreadfully shabby & was a dirt magnet, being made of sythentic fibres. It really is false economy on such an important part of a room.

A good carpet in a neutral colour will last you for many, many years to come.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

We have 2 living rooms so lets call one the " sitting room" This has always been the "good" room and children only allowed by invitation lol.

Do you have one of those new fangled television sets in there next to your radiogram? :p

A light suite isn't the nightmare I thought it would be actually - I've got a light beige/cream suite (I swear it changes colour in the light) and a very untidy man and black cat - just get a couple of cheap cream cotton bedspreads from somewhere like Ikea and use them as throws you can bung in the wash when things get grubby. To be honest though - I inherited my suite from my future in-laws and I think his mum had it scotchguarded to within an inch of its life and its survived my oh's teenage years and red wine addiction before he moved here - so I think it's pretty much indestructible anyhow.

Now a cream carpet... that DOES drive you slowly insane over time.
