Bush DVD 2051 Divx playback problems

Options
Hi,

I recently purchased the Bush DVD2051DIVX DVD Player from Argos, as recommend in this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=606643&highlight=cheapest+dvd, as i wanted a DVD player which could play back my Divx/Xvid files.

Unfortunately the DVD player plays regular DVD's fine, but wont play any of my data dvd's with divx/xvid files on - the folders appear, but no filenames appear.

Can anyone help me with this? Even in the Argos reviews it appears some people can and cannot get the divx files to play

I'am burning the Divx/Xvid files to blank DVD's with Nero and using the data dvd mode.

Many Thanks,
Charlie

Two things perhaps it doesnt like the dvd's and some models can be hit n miss with blanks, try a different set of blank dvd's.

Also did you close the session when burning a disk with nero? just before you burn this is a option to close the disk
  • Thanks for you reply Savemoney :)

I will try a different set of blanks, but i don't think that is the problem - because ive made normal copies of commerical film dvd's, and they work fine on the player - but when i've used the same blanks to write the divx files onto, the player wont read them, only the folders appear. I also have some older dvd's that ive burnt divx files onto (different brand) and they also have the same problem when ive tried to play them on the DVD player.

Yes ive closed the session, i turned the mult-session function off.

    Help!!

Have you tried putting the divx film on the root of the drive (not in a folder)?

I've had a couple of el-cheapo divx players and had no problems just throwing the movie into the root of the disk and simply selecting the film from the menu.
  • Thanks for your reply CHR15 :)

I tried what you said and the DVD player just said "unknown disc" - i don't know what else to try, i've tried googling the player and have seen mixed results, some people seem to have no problem with it and others have returned it. Just wish the thing worked.

I dont know what else to do!

Last year I bought some wharfdale divx players at local market which had been withdrawn by argos- they have been chucked long ago. I had an asda dvd recorder which didn't say it played divx but was quite good, this died after a couple/three years , used to get more and more bad disc warnings.

This year I got an ONN divx player - £24, now £30, - with usb and this was ok-ish but very slow to load and some sync problems. I read about argos selling an upgraded model philips for £50 with USB and got that -sorted!
If your player won't read discs it's bad ,take it back, simple as.
I use cheap discs and don't worry if folder or root located,

That particular model doesn't play divx. There was a very similar model in the last catalogue which did but has now been replaced with this model. It does say in the catalogue that it doesn't play dixv and there is no reference to it on the online description.
