Insect bite relief - Aspiventin

Options
Does anyone have any experience of using this kit? The basic idea seems to be to draw out the nasty anti-coagulant from the bite and so prevent the allergic reaction.
I ended up in hospital in France because my leg swelled up due to mossie bites.

I am planning another trip soon and I came across this idea - do people think it will work?

  • Hi, I'm sorry I can't give you any advice on the medication you mention. However, I find taking sulpher tablets (they are tiny) amazing. I used to go to Cyprus often and was literally eaten alive until I found out about sulpher tablets. Apparently they give off an aroma (not to the human nose) which the wretched mossies hate and they go elsewhere. Available in Boots or the homeopathy counter of any decent chemist and will cost approximately £4.00. Worth a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Regards - Sallysaver

I have a little clicker that you put over the bite and then "click" a few times. Like you say it draws out the yuk. I suffer very badly with bites and always carry antihistamines which are worth there weight in gold. I haven't found anything that prevents them biting but my dad swears by Avon's skin so soft oil spray!!!!
    I haven't got one!

Taking Vitamin B before and during the holiday also works... the pharmacist at Boots advised me on this... you wont be able to buy them off the shelf, she had to sell them to me from behind the counter. I did get bitten but on a very small scale in comparison to what I usually get! One year my elbow swelled up when were in Jordan and I almost got admitted to a rather dodgy hospital... very scary!

When I went to Vietnam I was advised to take yeast tablets and eat a lot of Marmite for about a month before I went. I only got bitten 5 times but they were king sized mossies there and I'm allergic to them. So I dont really know if the yeast did the trick but I suppose it would be worth a try.

I went ahead and bought the kit today - cost £16 from Boots. Its basically a vacuum syringe and some different sized suckers that you apply to the bite or sting. It draws out the poison and hopefully your body won't react so badly.

I'll report back on how good it is - Bit short of Mossies round here right now but I have a date with them in a weeks time...

This is fantastic!!! I have used it while on holiday in the Amazon forest, it works wonders!!!
Sorry I missed your thread before, I would have advised you on it straight away!!!
If you have any trouble using it PM me.

I wonder if it works on teenage pimples....
  • If I had any teenage pimples I'd try it. Maybe it will smooth out wrinkles .. ?

Hi, please do keep us updated as I would love to know if it works. I'm allergic to mossie bites too.

I've tried everything apart from the sulphur tablets - (will try this year). I do take extra B vitamins, starting about a month before any planned trip, and immediately for an unplanned lastminute one. I've seen the research about marmite, and if I could stomach it (and didn't have a yeast allergy) I'd try, or at least take brewers yeast tablets.

I now always use deet (bought unbranded at a local chemist) - as the consequenses of bites are so awful. If I do get bitten, of all the antihistamins I find that Piriton is still the best. I know its an old type, but it works better on insect bites than anything else, and all the chemists I've spoken to concure.

Sadly, I've even started reacting to bites from my garden insects too - not as badly as some abroad, but bad enough for the Piriton to come out.
  • As a preventative measure, I tried the stretchy yellow wristbands (bought mine v cheaply in superdrug) in France last year and they worked very well for me. Only got one bite the whole holiday (usually covered in them).
