i've been searching online for hours and can't find a definitive answer to this can any of you help me please
My car failed it's MOT and it's not going to be worth it to me to have it fixed
What do insurance companies normally charge for cancelling the policy, i've been paying monthly direct debit for 5 months

It will depend on the Insurer Swintons have placed you through.
Are you not buying a car to replace the current car shortly?0 -
They have placed it through NIG
I haven't got the cash for another car and really don't want to take out any credit as my job is not 100% safe in the current climate0 -
when I just got my renewal it said "if you want to cancel your policy part way through the insurance you would need to make 2 months premium" so it might not be the same with all insruances, i would phone them up and find out.0

Why not just ring your insurer and ask? What do insurance companies normally charge for cancelling the policy, i've been paying monthly direct debit for 5 months
Not really relevant what is 'normal' - what you need to know is how much it will be to cancel your specific policy. This will be in your T&Cs/policy booklet or you can just give them a call.0 -
I've had a quick look on their website and it gives a cancellation figure of £50 pounds. I would assume that you would also be charged pro-rata for time on cover. The only way to get a true cancellation cost would be to ring them and explain the situation.
Ask them if they can suspend the cover until you need insurance again as this could save you money, but they may not offer this service.
Hope this helpsTop Tip is £450 away from clearing the overdraft and being debt free0 -
Says in the documents i received to ring my local branch if i have any queries and it's not open Sundays. I'm going to visit them after 9am today to get a clear idea of how much this will cost me.
The terms and on there website and infact the pack i received do not give any clear information on the penalties for cancelling part way through the policy if your paying by direct debit.0 -
thank i got very lucky, i only had to pay £26.95 to cancel the policy0
-
That was a result, it probably worked out that you had just paid an instalment so it reduced the outstanding.
Don't forget to ask Swintons to send you written proof of your no claims bonus as you will need this when you reinsure a car in the future. To save you asking your no claims bonus is valid for two years from the cancellation date but some companies (I know Norwich Union do) allow up to three years0 -
i'd just paid a months insurance on the 5th, even with that added on, the amount still seemed very fair to me.
the girl in the office said she'll sort that for me0
