Our carpets are 8 years old, put in by the developer so low-middle range.2 adults 2kids and 1 dog. We have only carpet in the lounge, stairs, landing and bedrooms. Dog not allowed upstairs. I hoover downstairs every day, every other day upstairs, henry hoover upstairs, dyson downstairs. I also have a no shoes only slippers inside rule. Today I used my bissell carpet cleaner and they were really dirty depite all of the above. All the carpets were cleaned with the bissell just before xmas. So why after all the above is the carpet so dirty
. They never look that bad! Cleaned them yesterday as the stair carpet had mud on them:eek: . No one is claiming responsibility! The carpets are blue in the bedrooms and light green elsewhere. They look like new again now but how can I keep them really clean. The dog is the least of my problems!

Oh, I know what you mean. We had new carpets fitted not so long ago, and an oak floor in the hall which marks with stilettos...so I also have a 'no shoes' inside policy also . (This worked fine till I caught my 18 year old going outside for a fag in bare feet/socks and coming back in...I think he missed the point)
We also have dogs who are confined to our large kitchen. Our carpets take up a HUGE amount of dirt and fluff; I am always amazed at the actual dirt and grit that I see collecting, and I have to wash the filter weekly...its revolting. As you say, the carpets never look that bad before they are hoovered....
I bought a couple of dirt trapper mats from Costco...one at each outside door, and one in the hall. Aside from being really anal, and laying those plastic runners, (or perhaps only walking on the carpets naked after having had a bath...:T......I can't see how to stop the accumulation of dirt. I guess it just must be normal!Life.

Bring it on! :j0 -
I have the very same mats! And a son who has really dirty socks!!!!! And I am always cleaning the hard floors. The dog has just been laying on the lounge carpet and has left a lovely mud patch on it. No body else here is bothered, but they never clean up!!!0
