How can I fix my Thomson Black Diva CRT television?!?

Hello! I hope this is the right place to post this plea for help.
I'm an avid recycler and recently acquired a second-hand Thomson Black Diva CRT television from a friend, which was in excellent condition. I was thrilled to bits until this morning, when it refused to switch on! I don't have the remote and have been switching the set on using the manual buttons.
When I press the power button 'on' at the set, the television makes the noises you'd expect when powering up; however, the main power light remains orange / red and the television doesn't switch on. If I then press the set volume buttons / channel buttons (as it's all I can do without a remote!), the red light flashes a few times, before returning to just red.
I have disconnected the television from the freeview set-top box, and connected it straight to the aerial - the situation does not change.
Can anyone please help in any way? I'm at a total loss and this is my only television!
Many thanks.

I don't know the TV but some generic suggestions. Have you tried keeping the power button held for a long (even very long) time at startup? check under all the flaps for a hole to poke a pencil in with a reset button?
Poundland often have cheap (£1!) universal remotes, you could try one of those, when your searching for the right remote code it usually involves trying the power up command anyway and would be useful if it worked.
Unfortunately Thomsons are terribly assembled and prone to random acts of suicide!European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -

Thanks Sillygoose - will give it a go, but I'm not holding out much hope! If it doesn't revive, I'm afraid it'll have to go to the great recycler in the sky!0
