Employer Maternity Pay - discrimination?

I feel like banging my head against the brick wall! I have said before it is not a sex discrimination, it is not any type of discrimination.
All companies offer different staff different benefits, it is part and parcel of this world we live in.
Benefits are part of an employees remuneration, would you expect the pay of a clerical worker to be the same as a senior member of staff in your organisation? Likewise benefits are the same. It is part of an incentive package.
I work in HR I can assure you this is not unfair in the eyes of the law.
Please just accept it, you have good maternity benefits as it is.0 -
Shame you didnt work for the civil service I got 6 months full pay when I worked for them, and it came into play 2 weeks before I went on Maternity leave, i was going to go on maternity leave earlier then I heard it was coming so hung onto the baby for dear life. There pay was really really naff though!
Can I suggest you go work for them before you have your next baby. or move to Norway I beleive they all have a years paid maternity leave.0 -
I'm on the other side of the academic/clerical divide. I don't think it's fair either.
I favour "single status" which means, with the same employer, only pay is different, all other conditions are the same. And that isn't just because I'm too old to worry about maternity benefits!
However I'm in a very small minority - no-one is going to give up benefits they already have, and the employers aren't going to pay the costs of improving the clerical benefits.0 -
Academics always seem to have better rights than other staff at universities, as someone else said perhaps this is due to the level of qualifications & the ease of replacements etc.
What your OH is being offered is very generous compared to the actual amount that she would get if she just received SMP. At the end of the day she will probably have all this in her contract so if she didn't like it perhaps she should have queried it at the time?
I used to work for BT & their maternity package was very, very good. It was something like full pay for 18/20 weeks then half pay for the next 6/8 weeks followed by £100 a week for the next 6 months.0
