Hi
My son is backpacking in Australia. I have signed up to 18185 to ring him at my friends house (in Oz).
How do I ring his mobile using 18185?
Or am I not understanding something about 18185?
Thanks

It doesnt matter where he is roaming in the world it will cost you the same to dial a uk mobile number via 18185 ( but your son will pay an arm and a leg to recieve the call.)
Has your friend not got a landline you could ring? This would be cheaper all round.
To call his uk mobile from a BT Landline. Dial 18185 07xxx xxxx
To call australian landline from a BT Landline. Dial 18185 followed by the oz number in full intl format.0 -
Just to be clear - using 18185 doesn't change the arm and a leg he would pay to receive the call on his mobile?
Thanks for your reply.0 -

He will be charged to receive your calls. £1/minute isn't unlikely.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

hi,use http://www.discountdial.co.uk/index2.php ists so much easier and cheaper.
How is it cheaper and easier?
BT charge 8p connection and 7p a minute at all times to call a UK Mobile via Discount Dial ,and you start paying as soon as you hear the recorded announcement,so you pay even if your not connected, where as using 18185 you dial direct and only pay connection charge if connected.0 -

Remember it doesn't mater which Telco you use to call the UK mobile, be it BT or 18185 for example and the mobile is not in the UK the person you are calling will be paying high roaming charges to answer the call.
If you want to call mobile, might be better for your son to have a Australian mobile and you call that via 18185 at 6p/min and your son pays nothing to answer the call. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
