Hi we have just ordered a dishwasher please can someone tell me if it is okay to plumb the water supply into the same cold water tap that we use for the washing machine using a double tap connector if there is such a thing??
Has anyone plumbed one into the hot water supply it say's on the web site that you can.
Last thing what dishwashing tablets do we put in the thing? we have always washed up by hand (sorry the boss has)
thanks Niall

Hi, Normally you connect dishwashers to the mains cold water supply, it should be fine using a 'Y' piece to split the washing machine cold supply, if you use both at the same time there might be a lack of water preasure which might stop one of them working. It would help if you say the make and model of the dishwasher and the make and age of the washer. Some dishwashers can be connected to the hot water supply but I don't think the wash quality is as good as it should be (depends on make).
Dishwasher tablets etc. - some people might say 3 in 1 type tablets are wonderful. I would steer clear, virtually all dishwashers have a watersoftening system inside which needs salt added to it to clean the softener if you use 3 in 1 tablets this softener could calcify and break. All dishwashers with water softeners are designed to work with seperate detergent, rinse aid and salt, if you stick to using these 3 seperately then you should have consistently good results for the life of the machine.
Hope this helps.0 -

Hi Niall, Thanks for the extra info, I am not completely up on the Hotpoint range but with the extra info. I would say stick to the cold water supply and let the dishwasher heat the water internally for the best wash results.

yes ok to plumb into a splitter.
make sure the waste outlet if connected to the sink trap is higher than the trap itself.so the water from the sink will not go into the machine.
finish dishwasher tabs are the best, but aldi do tablets called magnum. they came second in the which report last year.0
