Madmonster, I'm sure you could ask them if you wanted to you know ........seriously though I would never dream (nor would you I guess for a complete stranger!) ask you to compromise friendships. The link you gave me was very useful, so thanks for that ......but if you do change your mind your mates know how to find me,lol!

Oldtoolie, I know what you mean but there are some groups out there that just ain't sexy enough for celebrities to want to get involved for free - unless of course that particular cause is somehow close to their heart.

The reason I said local was that there is more chance of persuading someone to give up 2 hours of their time for free if there isn't much travelling involved. We've come up with some names that we can approach so you never know.

As far as publicity is concerned its a catch 22 - the local paper won't even send a photographer to cover the event but I guess they would be down there like a shot if we had a personality attending.......ah the joys of offering to help organise the evening eh?

Last year I approached one of the 'Loose Women' for a charity project, which would require her for 1 day, we had a figure in mind to pay. She or rather her agent wanted the equivalent of the entire budget (35K), hence she wasnt used.

might be worth trying to contact Gryff Rhys Jones - he has his own boat (seen on telly), and may be up for helping out?

(perhaps a raffle / auction for a daytrip etc?)

no idea who his agent is tho.. try writing via the bbc?

You could also try to arrange something 'subject to professional engagements' - means you might have to reschedule at short notice, if the celeb gets a professional booking, but you pays your money and takes your choice.
