Found these in todays papers. If interested, and you can lock your money away but you must see their terms and conditions on their websites, as there are penalty clauses if you close the account early, also they are as usual a limited offer. They are about the best about at the moment.
Cheshire Building Society - 2yr fixed @ 3.75% on amounts over 5k if interest paid annually, lower rate if monthly interest
Alliance and Leicester - 2yr fixed @ 4.01% on amounts over 30k (Must be non- Santander money i.e not funded from B&B, Abbey, A&L ). Interest paid monthly
Coventry BS - 3yr fixed @ 3.55% on amounts between £1 -£250k
Norwich & Peterborough - 3yr fixed @ 3.50% on amounts of 50k or more

Abbey -you can set it up on line
A & L - you need to go to a branch ( you can find the info by typing "fixed rate bond" in the search box)
Its well hidden but if its a choice between Abbey incompetance and A & L there is no choice (in my experience)0
