in Credit cards
Hello,
Ive had my credit card since December, for emergencies.
Had to do some shopping on it in Feb, but i moved my credit limit from £100 to £50 shortly after i got it. Its with capital One, by the way.
Did an equifax trial, and cancelled a week before it was due to expire, both on the phone and by email, to be sure.
Noticed last week that my available balance was zero, even though my credit limit is £50 and id only spent £20-something. Secure messaged Cap One to ask if Equifax was taking money, and ask them to stop. They messaged back that the transaction was pending, but they hadn't claimed the money.
Rang Equifax and they said that my membership had been cancelled and it wouldnt be claimed.
It has been, twice, and ive been charged an overlimit charge of £12 too. I cannot use secure messaging, and am advised to call cap one, who dont answer. Im scared that im gonna keep getting charged the £12, and i cant believe they've done this.
Any advice on what to say to them?

You should really put your limit to something like 200, because otherwise the card's pretty useless expect for the tiniest of emergencies!0

Well first of all i'd pay £50 to get the card back into the credit limit. Then contact Capital One0

I agree. I would think carefully before reducing a limit like this, which is already modest. It's wise to allow yourself (and others) some headroom.
Unfortunately, it isn't always possible, in the current economic climate, to re-instate some of the old limit should you change your mind later. What's more, if you accidently exceed the limit, you've broken the terms of your agreement, which has more serious consequences than going over your budget.
With C1's online facilities, it's easy to keep track of your spending from day to day.;)People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
