Washing machine nightmare

Went to do some washing yesterday, it filled up with water okay and that was it, didn't spin or anything.
Door lock light flashes like mad and the easy iron light flashes.
OH took the filter off, gave it a clean.
Then it worked, did 2 loads of washing and i put it outside to dry.
Come this morning to do the last load of washing, same problem, fills up with water and then the same lights flash like mad.
What can be the problem??? It cannot be anything major surely as it worked after my OH cleaned the filter.
Can anyone offer any suggestions, we really cannot afford to buy a new washing machine, we'd have to save up and id have to hand wash.

What make and model is the washer?
Do the lights flash in some sort of sqeuence? Ie: 4 flashes then a pause before starting again?Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Indesit WIDL102 - its a washer/dryer
It basically takes the wash powder, fills up with water, then stops, drum doesn't even spin. The easy iron (green) light flashes, but just a slow flash.
Door lock light flashes like mad. You then cannot turn it off, except with turning it off at the mains.
It makes the noise as though it is washing, but of course isn't.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Just downloaded your manual and that didnt give much idea. We need someone who services washing machines to answer what the flashing lights mean - all the manual says is
'Call for assistance as this means there is an abnormality'
Really helpful :rolleyes:Mags - who loves shopping0 -

Sadly i think it has given up, OH spent an hr trying different things and it just does the same thing. We've had it 4 1/2 yrs, so not too bad lasting i guess.
Will have to save up for one and hand wash in the mean time, ewwww.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
I'd hazard at guess that the brushes on the motor have gone. I think they can cost as little £20 to replace yourself.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0
