Car Insurance Help

Hi everyone,
Im currently searching for car insurance for a second vehicle, to be honest i wasn't aware that my no current no claims (11years) doesn't count for anything on a second vehicle so to say i'm not happy is a bit of an understatement!!

Anyway does anyone know of any insurance companies who recognise part of my no claims or at least offer a discount. I've tried confused.com etc but because of 0 no claims at least half wont even show a quote.

Thanks in advance.

    Micky,

You're not alone in thinking that NCD can be used on more than one vehicle - its something thats been discussed here before.

From personal experience, I spoke to my insurer who held my NCD on my first car and they agreed to 'mirror' some of my NCD on to the 2nd vehicle. I am aware this isn't always an option.

Are you looking for insurance for yourself or do you have a named driver on the policy - having a female named driver on the policy could reduce the cost is its appropriate.

Failing that speak to a local broker who may be able to tailor a deal for you, or look at a multi car policy

hi toptip, thanks for the advice. I'd be the policy holder with my wife as the named driver, Both over 25.
I tried my existing insurance who offered 3 years no claims which is better than nothing i suppose but still seems quite expensive.
Im still trying to get my head around my 11 years no claims counting for nothing!!

    It does.

Your premium will be lower than for someone who has had claims during the last 5 years.

As tip top said try a local broker as they have schemes for second vehicles especially if your wife is a named driver. If your wife is the main user it will probably be cheaper if you do the insurance in her name!

is your wife a named driver on vehicle 1 ?

how long for if she is ?

who will be the main driver of vehicle 1 once vehicle 2 goes on the road ?

we had a similar situation with both of us on the same policy, full no claims each

we simply changed vehicle 1 into my name for registration and insurance as I would become the main driver [ dont know if this would work if the car is leased or on hp though ] and changed OH to named driver

then took OH's full no claim onto a new policy for vehicle 2 in his name and registered to him as this would become the main vehicle he drove, added me as a named driver and got a 10% discount for already having a policy with them

    Micky,

I would think about the 3 year option your own insurer gave you. Even if its not the cheapest option it should still give you 4 years to shop about with next year
