Supermarket Coupon Policies

Hi, I am quite new to MSE and I have read that Tesco, ASDA and Waitrose are willing to accept coupons for products that you have not purchased.
Are you actually allowed to do this or is does it depend on whether the SA will allow you to get away with it? Also, are there any set rules stating how many coupons you can use, etc?
Thanks in advance.

Hiya Jaffacakes, I shop at Tescos and I use vouchers for items that I do not purchase, HOWEVER, this really depends on the SA as to whether or not they take them. It is a bonus if they do but not an automatic right. If they do accept them I can sometimes have £10 off a weekly shop. Though it has been less lately as my voucher stocks are low.

Most Asda stores have a policy of 10% in vouchers, but again, this really is a bit of a grey area and varies greatly from one store to another, one manager to another, one SA to another... get my drift!

And just to clarify... we are not doing anything illegal here, so it's not like we're getting away with anything. Tesco/Asda will get their money back from the manufacturer.
Oh yeah, don't forget, we're only talking manufacturers' vouchers here - not ones with a supermarket logo on them. E.g. Tesco will only accept their own Tesco vouchers if you've bought the item.
What I would suggest is test the water in your local supermarket with just a couple of vouchers and see how it goes. Go for a young bloke on the tills as well, if you can - they're the best!
PS. Welsh Dragon, my voucher stocks are really low, too!!! I'm using up all my 10p's and 20p's... Need some good newspaper vouchers soon!

Yes Dormouse, seems abit quiet on the voucher front lately unfortunately. When I get a chance I think I will go through my cupboards and email some of the food companies complementing them on their products to see if they will send me some vouchers.

Tesco seem to be going down the same road as Asda...10% in vouchers if the item isn't purchased.0

the word from a tesco employee (me) the policy is if you have ie 3 cupons for dog food and you buy nil we can take 1 of them if you buy 1 can of dog food you can take one for the tin you will buy and 1 extra i hopr e this make sence..
this is the company policy not the store i have seen the host from tesco about this but it all depends on the SA and if they care about working for tescoWideBoy JR

Hi,
where do you get all the vouchers from? are they from a particular newspaper or only on line?
I ve been pouring over newspapers for the last couple of weeks, but haven't found any. The only ones i ve found are from that rubbish magazine with the prison advert on TV and they don't seem to be for anything I use.

I've tried to use coupons at Tesco THREE times for products I hadn't purchased, rejected each time.
Even when I did purchase products, the SA wanted me to show him them!!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
