what are these bugs in my plant pot?

I was bought an amaryllis bulb for christmas and it's in a pot in my kitchen.

When watering it today I noticed loads of tiny little bugs crawling and jumping in the soil. They are really small, only about 1-2mm long, and are white or translucent. I tied to take a pic but they are too small to see properly, I only noticed them cos they were moving around.

Anyone know what these might be and what I need to do about them?

someone else who knows will come along soon!

I found exactly the same looking thing in one of my outside pots last week. I thought I'd found it on the web as a pot worm but looking back now I'm not sure

I don't think the compost could have been any drier when I noticed them - I'm not the best at remembering to water plants! :)

I had these by the million in a big fern, I threw it out. Now I try to water all plants from the bottom, I used to water from the top and think maybe that encouraged them.
  • exactly a year ago my pal was given some of these bulbs, and she stored them in a dry cupboard ready to plant when she had time after christmas and new year etc, then when she got the bulbs out of the cupboard (like an airing cupboard but bigger) the whole place was crawling with these little mites, all over the bulbs, the shelves etc, so maybe its not the compost but the bulb that the mites from:confused:
    hope it can be sorted.
    totally a tog!:D
  • well i've given them a liberal drenching of bug killer and they don't seem quite so lively now so we'll see...

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
