  • UPDATE..The EA phoned today and told her i was getting impatient and if the survey hadn't been done on my house by Friday then it was going back on the market. She rang the buyer and his EA (Halifax) who had no explaination why the survey hadn't been done yet after nearly 6 weeks. She thinks a "drive by" valuation may have been done. She also did a chain check and all is OK. Interestingly the top of the chain (the house i'm buying) were also an the phone today to the EA telling them to get a move on. Let's hope this moves it on a bit.

ooh, that was v.brave of your EA Totalguitar. Knowing my luck if i issued an ultimatum to my buyers they would tell me were to shove it. I really wish i had the guts to say it but i just daren't risk rocking the boat and it all going wrong again.

Did your EA not send you a copy of the agreement to purchase with your buyers details on it? Can you not chase them up yourselves - give them a ring and ask do they know when the survey has been booked so you have a rough idea of when you need to book time off work?

I would be very concerned by now and would be instructing the EA to remarket the property
  • To be honest I wouldn't put a timescale on it .The 1st house we bought took 6 months.

We have just exchanged on our 2nd property and should complete next wednesday. We put our offer in september !!! We have no chain our vendor is going to live with her daudgher. We are keeping the house we are living in now as we only have a very small mortgage so It should of all been plain sailing.

Sorry to put a dark side on it.

Totalguitar, your buyers lender may have done a drive valuation so yoy wouldn't know they had been to do the valuation. Different lenders work in different ways, some will do the survey straight away while others will get references & credit checks etc done before going to survey. Keep chasing & I hope you hear some positive news soon.

I think the fact that the house was only on the market a few days and the first viewer put an offer in makes me think that if they can't complete in a reasonable time then putting it on the market again should be ok. If it had been on the market for ages with little interest then i would probably tread carefully and bite my tounge ! The last think we want is to lose the house we are buying as there isn't another property on the market at the moment that we would buy in our area.

Well i bit the bullet and told them i want a surveyor in by next Friday or i am taking my house off the market altogether going on a long holiday and then selling the blummin thing myself. I told them that i will not be ringing, calling in or chasing them anymore about this and that as i am paying them over £1000 that they can sort it out from here on in. PHEW!!!

I actually feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. That was yesterday morning and when we returned from our mortgage appointment there were 4 messages on my phone. Why do you have to be so abrupt to get the sevice you are paying for?

Anyway, although they are now going at it hammer and tongs for us we have now found out that a full structural survey is being done on our buyers house on Monday! Full structural?! We were told it was just an electrical thing that had to be sorted before our buyers would fork out the money to have the survey on ours done.

Apparently the FTBers that are purchasing our buyers house have been told by there mortgage people they can't have the morgage unless that comes up clear. This will be the 3rd survey they have had done! They also changed mortgage providers half way through which also put things back!

I have been assured that our buyers are ready to go as soon as this is done, but i can't help being a bit miffed that this structural hingy has taken 8 weeks to come to light. My EA even took my house of the RM website last week and we haven't even had the surveyors round to our house yet!!
