Ideally, I'd like a government comprising both Frank Field and Vince Cable.

As a previous poster said, Cable has spoken a lot of sense during this crisis. As a former Chief Economist at Shell, he has a far greater knowledge of Economics than most MPs. He also seems less concerned with party political point scoring than his Tory equivalent, George Osborne.

Personally, I think the Tories made a smart move in bringing Ken Clarke out of retirement. I think he would have made a far more effective shadow chancellor than Osborne.

How about the "dream ticket" - Ken Clarke as Chancellor, and Dennis Skinner as PM. We'd rule the world again. ;)

So there we have it, doesn't care what happens to the economy as long as the Tories are elected :D

Or I never want this bunch of economy wrecking fools at the helm of the country again?

Major spinning there though, nice one.

No, let's have a different bunch. Some Old Etonians will do nicely.

Is there a single Labour government that hasn't ended in a nightmare?

I like Vince Cable and David Davies. One should join the other's party then they can instigate a coup together (of the party, not the country) and take over! They both seem like real people, not phoney PR-groomed shop window dummies.

I've got suggestions for what Milliband could do with that banana, maybe combined with cloths, water and masked armed agents. Not on a family website, though.

Don't most governments end in a bit of a low though...otherwise why would they be voted out? When things go well people trust in them, I would have thought. I have to say, the last re-election astounded me though. I was farly sure people felt strongly enough about the Iraq situation and the 'economy with the truth' that surrounded that.

Why were you astounded? We had a government who took us into a stupid war and an opposition who supported them all the way. Even after the truth came out the Tory front bench still supported the war. The protest vote couldn't sanely have gone to the Tories, it went to the Lib Dems, to Respect and others.

Anyway, most people don't care as much about iraq as they do about what surrounds them. And Michael Howard scared the crap out of them.

I suppose I was astounded because of naivity. I tend to vote on my etholgy and on issues and this had been a hugely prevalent issue and will not go away anytime soon in the repurcussions it has had both for individuals in our forces and in Iraq, and vitally, in international relations for generations to come.

The outrage about Iraq was huge-not actually from me, I was prepared at first to accept the government knew things that they could not safely or wisely share and I felt in asking the country to have faith in them and the inteliigence. More fool me!

The protests were huge, and its hard to get Brits protesting. But when it came to it, you are right, people voted for their perceived benefit.

Incidently..I did not say where I thought the protest vote should have gone:confused:

Also, don't discount the huge dampening effect of:

    a) the slanted electoral system we "enjoy" in the UK - i.e. unless you happen to live in a marginal seat, it isn't worth voting
    b) the lack of a credible alternative that is visibly different from the current govt. You still can't get a water biscuit between most of the policies of GBrown and "call me Dave".
