  • I just got a new telly out of comet as the old one died two weeks before the five year warranty expired, it was £299 and they charged a penny for the stand which i didn't need anyway.

I have had a confirmation email and an email stating that the order has been processed using my Visa Card. I assume this means that they have taken the money from my card, and I assume they are now obliged to honour it?

The email'ed wording you should be looking for is in something like the 3rd or 4th email that their pathetic system sends, viz:

"We are pleased to confirm your order."

Mind you that statement is about as simple and explicit as one could get in confirmation of a legally binding contract.

The only issue being that the email narrative only confirms a 6-digit part number which could of course mean anything both in & outside DSG Land - hence my recommendation to keep their initial on-screen ENGLISH LANGUAGE description of what they've taken that confirmed order from you for - as I've never known a customer who intentially ordered a 6-digit DSG SKU # !

Mind you the key section from Currys' Terms and Conditions is clear enough:

    "Our Contract

"You will have an opportunity to check and correct any input errors in your order up until you click the Submit Order button.

"After you submit an order we will give you an Order Reference Number and details of the products you have ordered. We will send the same details to you in an e-mail (our first e-mail). We will then send a second email when we start to process your order. Please note that these e-mails are acknowledgements, not acceptance of your order.

"Acceptance of your order and the creation of a legally binding contract between us will only occur when we send you a third e-mail, which will contain details of how your products will be delivered to you. (Alternatively, we may decline all or part of your order for any reason, in which case our third email will tell you so.)"

So if you've got that third (fourth? as 3rd is an electronic receipt in PDF format?) email with the key phrase "We are pleased to confirm your order" then you're ready for Currys to use the full power of the English legal system to ensure you get what you ordered...

... mind you it's now exactly two months since I ordered something from Currys that I'm still waiting for after 36 emails, 5 phone calls, one registered letter, 2 deliveries and 2 collections : makes one wonder how they can possibly make a profit on that amount of work from a £9.99+P&P transaction, let alone from a 1p+P&P transaction...

...Now what is that 1 Step to Business Profitability maxim ? : "those firms that deliver customer service on the first attempt will succeed, whereas those that need over 40 steps to create a totally frustrated and seethingly angry customer will make somewhat less profit"

I made an order for the stand and a couple of other items, went through the whole procedure only to be advised that they can't confirm that stock is available. So I cancelled my other tems, a £20 dvd player, postage was £19.99!!!, ok if I get the stand too, BUT that is doubtful!!! I still have ordered the stand so fingers crossed.
ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷

Some idiot will have bought loads thinking he can make a profit on eBay. That won't happen as postage would make the prospect of a secondhand TV stand for any more than 1p less than attractive.
They'll end up being thrown away to the despair of anybody who actually wanted one!
BTW, there was stock in Stevenage.
    Can I help?

  • A tip for if/when you 1p MSE'ers get embroiled in Currys' "Customer Care" system and their national rate, ie premium rate, support number 0870 333 1222.

    From the SayNoTo0870 website I found 0500 304 304
which has an option to talk to a human about an order placed on web, etc.

Spent 17 minutes on the phone to them this morning endeavouring to sort out why they've delivered the WRONG product for the THIRD time - that would have been a £1.50 phone call otherwise (let alone my time of course!)
