When travelling by train ALWAYS look at the price of the off-peak return - it is often only one pound more than the off peak single and always less than double.0 -

It depends, I've never been able to find a decent definition of it. It seems under some circumstances it means 'all day outside of London'0 -

The precise definition is left to the train companies to describe, and there are therefore as many versions of it as there are of them. The easiest way to find out whether an off-peak ticket is valid is to put a similar journey into a booking website and see if the fare is shown as available. Putting London to Cardiff for next Monday morning in to nxec just now, it immediately told me that the £61 off peak return ticket is valid on the 0845 train and thereafter, but is not valid on the 0527 (the first of the morning).0
