Feeling low and needing advice on reducing payments

Oh, and if they say they won't give you mileage (at the very least) then its simple - tell them you won't use your car. Its not just petrol your paying for, its wear and tear, insurance and depreciation.0
-
Sorry and another thing - if you are expected to bring your car into work to use it for work and then have to pay for the privilidge you should be claiming the parking fees back for those days also.0

Hehe... if I say that I want my petrol expenses I'm sure they'll pay them. they're not completely unreasonable though I do belive my boss said what he said because a) he can't be arsed with the paper work, b) he doesn't want the money to come out of the budget for the project
Parking is free generally in any case
I'll bring this up in the morning... oh... doh! Boss is off for a week for the school helf term Boss is always taking time off Boss is always taking time off Lightbulb moment, Feb 2006 Lightbulb moment, Feb 2006

Check out the situation re usisng your car for work-related journeys with your union, pronto. Your boss sounds like he has it wrong. Bar work will pay hourly national minimum wage which is more than £4.60, you'll also get tips so that will beef your bar wages up.0

Just start recording them from tomorrow, I think the claim form is on the Intranet under the HR section. You need to log what your start mileage was and the end mileage - they audit them because council employees can't be trusted. A few miles every day can add up to quite a wedge - you could easily make enough for one of your nights out! ;-)0

Thanks guys I really appreciate your help
Do you know what I've just thought... My car insurance covers me for SDP only. That means that if I have a crash whilst I'm doing something for work I'm not covered right?? I'm going to argue this when i next see my boss because I see how silly it is now. I have two bosses... the least senior of them goes on most of these outing with me and he rides a motor bike so he hitches a lift in *my* car when we do go out. I'd never thought about these insurance issues before.... it's actually fairly serious come to think of it Lightbulb moment, Feb 2006 Lightbulb moment, Feb 2006

Sorry bud but thats an excuse, 12 hours a week is nothing in the whole scale of things

Yes, your car needs to be covered for business use as SDP only covers you for commuting to and from your fixed place of work. Its not just if you have a crash for business but if you have one at all and they find out your car was used for business then your whole insurance could be invalid.
I'd phone up and get a quote - it adds around £8 per month onto my insurance, then you can put that to your manager.
Err just had a thought, you might want to find out how much moving to Salford will increase your insurance also. I think its in a higher group than Didsbury....0

Gopd point about the car insurance. And it may mean that if you have an accident and the boss that hitches a life with you is injured he won't be able to claim anything on the insurance !0
