Immerse at once in cold water. While soaking, dissolve washing up liquid in the water, at the same time rubbing the area with your fingers. If this does not remove the stain, soak in a biological detergent in warm water. Should the stain persist, sprinkle borax on the mark and flush with water as hot as article will stand. Wash in the usual way.
Pinched this from a web site, hope it helpsIn giving

If all else fails try Vanish - either soak the shirt in a solution or use a stick to dab on the stain."This site is addictive!"

I'd soak the T shirt in your usual detergent, then remove and add borax directly onto the stain while the item is still wet. Leave for about half an hour then wash as you usually would. I find this nearly always removes the stain.
If all else fails, as the T shirt is white, you could use a teeny weeny bit of bleach, applied directly to the stain.

Hang in the sun and it will bleach the stain out. Might take a good few hours or even days although my last one hung out on a hot day was clear of stain by the time I took it in the same day.0

Panic over - thank you all!!
I immersed it in cold water, left it to soak in washing up liquid, used some borax, sprayed it with vanish and have just washed it with double the usual number of aerial tablets (probably overkill I know, but it's a really nice t-shirt!) and it's worked - result one snowy white t-shirt!
Thanks for all your tips!

Before you shell out £££ on stain removers, nip to Tesco and buy their 3 bars of cheap and cheerful white soap for 13p. Dampen both soap and t-shirt with warm water and rub gently. Nearly always works for me!My message to that greedy wunch of bankers:

I usually deal with any stains on my posh white shirts with a quick soak in warm water, with Stardrops applied directly to the stain. Then they go straight into the wash.
