Need help with gas company
Options
My wife and I have our gas & electric supplied by Scottish Power but in October a sales guy from Brittish Gas came to our door promising us the earth if we changed our supplier. We agreed and all documents were signed, 2 days later Scottish Power sent a rep to our house to keep us as a customer. After going over things we asked if we stayed with Scottish Power what would we need to do regarding Brittish Gas the rep told us that he would do all necessary paperwork and we would continue using same cards and nothing would change.
So everything seemed to be ok until we revieved a letter from Central Recoveries (BG) telling us we owed them £182 for 28 days worth of gas as they were never told we were staying with Scottish power. So I called Brittish Gas and was told 2/3 different versions and this is the same when I called Scottish Power. Until Thursday evening when somone called from Scotish Power and spoke to my wife telling her that it was there fault this had happened and the rep that came to the house had no right to tell us that he would sort everything out for us. I have now just recieved a bill from debt company for the amount owed.
Can anybody please tell me what our best course of action is. Throughout al of this we have continued to pay Scottish Power and still are.
Cheers
Stuart

OK, I work for BG so may be able to give some insight.
First - if you belive that you were mis-sold to by the BG rep, call them and complain - they will register the complaint and can chase it up.
Second - you should have been told that you had 14 days to change your mind from signing the contract, however the SP rep then wouldn't have got commission, so he just signed a new contract to bring you back.
- So you did leave SP for 28 days, and were with BG for those 28 days.
You should have continued to receive lettes from BG about joining and then leaving them.
Did you receive an initial bill from BG or just the thing from Central recoveries?
You're going to need more info, so will probably have to speak to BG &/or SP again.
a)What reading did SP close your first account to?
b) What read did BG open your account to?
c) What read did BG close your account to?
d) What read did SP open your second aco!!!! to?
a should equal b and c should equal d
Do these readings look realistic? If not, challenge the reading(s) (I'd do this through BG as it will correct/hold the bill they are chasing soonest). I'd say that £182 looks on the high side. Take a reading today to help challenge.
You will owe BG something, just need to work out the right amount.0 -
Hi there,
I have contacteg BG and they are telling me that the ammount is correct and I have also called SP who tell me the same thing. How can I owe 2 gas companies money it makes no sense. So I have called the energy ombudsman who have advised me on what to do then get back to them.

Well, it might. You are only being charged for 28 days by BG. Are SP also charging for this period?0 -
Are you on a prepayment meter? If so and you carried on using Scottish Powers card/key the money may not have made it to BG. If it is a credit meter make sure the start read with BG is the same as the closing read with SP to start your account and the same to close it. As long as they agree you are not being billed twice.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
