:hello:
I need to freeze the top row of a spreadsheet so that I can always see it on screen, no matter how far down the table I've scrolled.
I'm self-taught in Excel (the "play-about-until-it-does-what-you-want" method) but skipped that lesson.
The closest I've found so far is "freeze panes" in the "Window" menu, but that freezes the top 17 rows, and I can't find a way to change it to just one.
What am I missing?
(none of "your marbles" gags please  )
Cheers,
MBE

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Oh yeah!
How come it went to row 17 when I had selected row 1?

Go to the slider on the right.
Pass the mouse-pointer over the top (above the slider pointer) until is changes to an = symbol with arrow ponting up & down.
Left-click & drag the slider down as many rows as you like.
You now have two pages and two sliders for scrolling.
Leave the top page displaying the header row and scroll the lower page.0 -
Could someone please tell me how to do this in open office when it is the A column that I want to always see on screen?

place pointer above the right vertical scroll bar - black area - should become a double headed arrow .. click and drag down ( same in excel )
For a vertical split Window (menu) >> Split and select the black bar at the right of the horizontal scroll bar (with Split ticked) and when the pointer becomes a double headed arrow click and dragRich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0
