Van insurance for 22 year old

Need to get van insurance for 22 year old son. Also insurance for 55 year old plus 22 year old to drive.
Does anyone know if the 22 year old can drive without being named on a van policy pls? Who should I try - this will all be SDP and commuting, not for commercial use. Thanks.

Its normally more expensive to insure a van for private use especially with a young driver on there so it may be worth looking at cars as well unless you really need a van.

Please beaware that if the van is your sons and he is the main user then Insuring it in a parents name etc can be classed as "fronting" (Google or search MSE on it) which can be illegal and can cause problems when you make a claim.

Thanks, will see what it works out for commercial use.

It was cheaper for me to insure a 2000cc coupe than a 1300cc van believe it or not.

Hi, Its quite difficult to get insurance on a van for private use and very expensive.

Ive always used Allen and Allen brokers and they seem to be the most competetive. The cheaper the policy though the less it covers you for so you have to read the documents carefully to make sure your covered for everything you need and check they dont just cover you to drive in certain hours
As its a 22 year old you might consider getting insurance that covers any driver but check the lower age limit on this.

And finally make sure your sitting down when you get thhe quote, lol.

quotezone best price is £465 for father and son, again more than the van is worth. I wonder about a multi van policy? The van he is buying next week is a transit van (ford) - havent even started shopping around, he has 3 years no claims, but age of 22 is the problem. Appreciate all your comments!

£465 for a 22 year old with 3 years no claims bonus is very cheap for a van, I doubt a multi vehicle policy will be any cheaper but you can give it a try

If the van is your sons, I assume you are not insureing it in his fathers name

Hi Karena, the quote given is not too bad. What use are you stating on the policy? This can make a big difference for example 'courier' will be far more expensive than 'light haulage'

If you want PM me with the details and I can give you a couple of phone numbers.
